General

1. What is MINO?

MINO Wireless is the first company to provide Enterprise firms with complete visibility and control over their mobile international calling services. MINO provides dramatic savings over standard international calling rates by seamlessly joining the mobile phone network with IP telephony infrastructure. MINO can save businesses an average of 30% to 70% on their international mobile calls.

2. How does MINO work?

The MINO Application which is used to initiate call set-up requests, integrates fully with a device’s phonebook for an easy calling experience. When you make an international call, the MINO Application sends a call set-up request (a small data packet sent via a GPRS connection), to the MINO switch. The switch authenticates, sets up and connects the call to the international contact through the best international provider for the call via a combination of global telephony and networks. This entire process is transparent to the user and typically takes only a few seconds.

3. Do I need to install anything on my phone to use MINO?

No, your company IT group will “push” the MINO client application to your mobile phone. Contact your IT Administrator for support and questions. You may also use the web-based MINO WebCall tool to set-up calls from your PC, and then receive the calls on any phone. MINO WebCall is a Web application that allows you to initiate international call set up requests directly from your computer. With MINO Web Call, you enter both the phone number to dial and the number to receive the call back from the MINO server. This second number can be any phone – a mobile device or a land-based line. This feature enables lower-cost global roaming for international business travelers by letting them use their smartphone or computer to set-up calls abroad to a local number, bypassing costly roaming tariffs.

4. How does MINO charge for its services?

MINO charges calls on a per MINO Minute basis, which come out of a company’s pooled international minutes. A MINO Minute is a single harmonized minute of international mobile calling that may be used for calls to both mobile and fixed numbers.

5. Does it cost the same for each country?

No, although MINO constantly tries to get the best and cheapest carrier in all countries, MINO cannot charge the same MINO Minute for all countries. The countries are divided in four zones:
  • Zone 1 countries charge 1 (one) MINO Minute per calling minute
  • Zone 2 countries charge 2 (two) MINO Minutes per calling minute

6. How does MINO control mobile phone calling use?

The MINO mobile client, which is typically push deployed via a company’s IT group to supported phones, allows the company to control the international mobile calling usage via the back-end MINO Manager administration tool. MINO Manager, in addition to standard billing and account management functions, can enable a company to enforce mobile calling policies suited to its unique needs. This could include permission-based calling.

7. Which devices does MINO support?

The MINO application is fully supported on BlackBerry Smartphones OS version 4.0 to 4.3 and on Windows Mobile version 5 and 6.

8. Is my conversation secure when I use MINO?

Yes. Since MINO offers phone-to-phone services, the conversation is as secure as any other call you make from the same phone.

9. Why doesn’t MINO accept my call from or call to number?

When using MINO, it is important to dial the phone numbers in this format: Country Code + Area Code + Local Number with no spaces or “+” symbols. There is no need to start the number with a “0”.
For example, in the US phone number 14087451708, “1” is the country code, “408” is the area code, and “7451708” is the phone number. If your “call from” or “call to” number is a mobile phone outside the US, replace the area code with the mobile service provider’s 3-digit prefix. If you continue to encounter problems with your “call from” and “call to” numbers, contact your IT Administrator for additional support.
